Startup Weekend Kickoff

People looking to explore a business concept can create a prototype of their idea and receive professional feedback at Startup Weekend Stamford.

Participants will have the chance to pitch a business idea as well as listen to others, vote on the most interesting plans, then form teams. The free event is sponsored by Techstars, an entrepreneur mentorship organization. Participants will identify their target consumer and create a prototype of their product. Everyone will receive personalized feedback as well as time with mentors.

Meet the Makers: Food, Beverages, and Fashion

Meet The Makers:  A Panel of Local Brands Share How They Turned Their Dreams into Reality, hosted by Half Full Brewery, will be a story-telling/Q&A panel consisting of founders of various local “handcrafted” businesses within the Food, Bev & Fashion industry.  The panel will include Dave Holmes of Spiked Seltzer (sold to Anheuser-Busch in 2016) and PLNT Blend, Bill Shufelt of Athletic Brewing, Jamieson Van Loan of Maikana Foods,  Joe Coffie of Verveno, and Conor Horrigan of Half Full Brewery.  These founders will share their backstories as well as many other fist-pumping, jaw-dropping, and anxiety-riddled moments and stories they encountered on their way to building their businesses with their hands.  Samples will be available!

See how through a highly engaging project-based learning platform, we will discuss how integrating art, design thinking and hands on modeling with STEM learning will inspire youth to become thinkers, makers and innovators.
Kids will engage in activities in Coding, Robotics, Art, 3-D Modeling and tie it all together with innovation principles as they design and build th city of the future.

There, the pieces will be offered for sale and a jury of gallerists and reviews will crown the ‘best in show.’

Python Crash Course

New to programming but unsure of where to start? Heard a lot about the usefulness of the Python programming language, but don’t know how to put the pieces together? Stop struggling to learn the basics on your own and fast forward your career with this introductory bootcamp.

SiW is partnering with General Assembly to provide a workshop designed for complete novices who have no previous experience with programming and want a gentle but comprehensive introduction to the Python programming language. We’ll start from the very beginning and incrementally build up your knowledge in tiny bites so that by the end of the day you’ll have a natural intuition about what programming is, and how its different pieces fit together.

NBCUniversal Executive Panel

Held at the Stamford Media Center’s Studio A, this panel will feature marketing leaders from NBCUniversal’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza, Los Angeles studios and others. The cell phone has come a long way in recent years with touch screens, facial recognition software and high-resolution cameras counted as just a few of the features once only found in sci-fi movies. Anyone with a modern phone can now instantly record a quick video and post it for the world to see in a matter of minutes, but not everyone can make it look good. That’s where we come in! If you want to learn the basics of getting started as a cellphone cinematographer or get a few editing tips to spice up those Instagram posts, family videos or small business ads, stop by our workshop. Come with your cellphones charged: iPhone users will be using iMovie and Andriod users will be using Filmora Go. If needed, please download the appropriate app ahead of time.
